One of the most exotic beaches that is placed in Pondicherry is Mahe beach.

Situated at a distance of around 22 kms from Kannur, the beach can also be visited from Calicut which is at a 75 km distance. The beach is bordered by a wooded line of palm trees and is inhabited by small hamlets of fisher folk. The natural growth of palm trees forms the fringes of the beach creating a breathtaking effect for anyone who is a witness to it.

The secluded and serene Mahe beach from a tourist perspective is very famous for the amazing view of the sunrise and the sunset. Tourists can meet the fishermen who live in the nearby hamlets in the morning and observe their fishing activities. Children have a passion for collecting shells that are found abundantly on this beach of Pondicherry. A walk over the pleasingly warm sand of Mahe beach leaves you soothed and calmed.

Though climate remains constant throughout the year, the best time to visit the beach is from October to March. The languages spoken by the inhabitants are Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, English, French and Hindi. Food and dining is a unique experience as the cuisine is generally a combination of authentic Kerala and French recipes. The Shopping Souvenirs which can be picked up from the nearby areas are perfumed candles, leather products, pottery, handmade paper, pickles, jams and much more.

The beach is not yet popularized as it is not visited by many tourists from India and overseas. But this very feature is what makes Mahe beach stand out amongst the others. To enhance its tourist potential, the beautification work is in process.

The place accomodates many activities ranging from a pulsating volleyball matches with your click of friends or colleagues to romantic beach walks with your spouse or better-half.
