Paradeep Beach - Orissa

Paradeep, the oldest existing sea port of Orissa, is an enjoyable tourist spot 94-km away from Cuttack and 125 kms from Bhubhaneshwar. The beach is an estuary of the river Mahanadi and is a major seaport of the country.

Why Paradeep?
Surrounded by evergreen forests, islands and a good marine drive, visitors can easily spend couple of hours here soaking in the sun or gamboling in the lovely cerulean water. The sight of the blue water hitting in the sea is a treat for your senses. The invitingly calm and serene beach is famous for temple 'Tulasi Kshetra' which is dedicated to Lord Baladeva.

What else?
Apart from the beaches there are a number of places that one can visit. Jhankad is a grand car festival held annually which draws a massive crowd. It also houses the shrine of Goddess Sarala as this place is related to poet Sarala Das, Orissa's first epic poet. The beach is also abode to the Bhitarkanika National Park. Spread over 367 square km, it has a variety of animals in its mangrove forests cleaved by creeks and rivers. Known for water monitor lizards and sea turtles, Gahirmatha beach also has white crocodiles that are rare to find. The place is the habitat of the olive Deers, ridley sea turtles and migratory birds are found here too. Apart from these one can indulge in Oceanic Activities like sun-bathing and strolling.

How to get there?
Paradeep can be reached by taking a flight to Bhubaneswar and hence taking a state bus. One can also take a train to Cuttack and then a state transport bus to Paradeep. By road NH-5A links Paradeep to the 3 major tourist towns of Udayagiri, Lalitagiri and Ratnagiri. The drive along the coastal belt is mesmerizing.

Where to stay?
Accommodation can be done in budget hotels, lodges or one can stay in Bhubaneswar or Cuttack and take a trip to Paradeep. Some good resorts are Hotel Aristocrat, Hotel Golden Anchor, and Paradeep Port Trust's Nehru Bungalow Madhuban Guest House.

What to carry?
As the long stretches of sandy beaches are the perfect place to soak oneself in the organic values of nature, this beach is the best place to relax. Also the Bhitarkanika National Park provides a picturesque view for the wildlife lovers. So your camera is something you do not want to leave behind.
