Rameshwaram Beach – Tamil Nadu
Rameshwaram beach is probably the most famous beach of Tamil Nadu. The shallow water and serene beauty makes this beach an ideal location for sun bathing and swimming enthusiasts. This beach is host to a popular Hindu pilgrimage destination. It is believed that lord Rama thanked lord Shiva at Rameshwaram for his support to uproot evil.
Rameshwaram is off the main land circumscribed by Gulf of Mannar and the Palk Strait. This beach is anchored with longest bridge ever constructed in India. It is some 167 kilometers away from Madurai airport. Travelers can use Air planes or railways to reach either Madurai, Madras or Coimbatore. All these cities are connected with Rameshwaram through roadways. Public transportation like buses and cabs can be hired from these cities to reach Rameshwaram.
Rameshwaram is an important Indian city which holds prominent mythological importance. The beach also has an expansive range of marine life species apart from natural beauty and a calm, quiet sea.
Ramanathaswamy, a well known Hindu temple is located a few kilometres away from the beach. The old temple boasts amazing sculptures and ancient works or art. The temple complex is spread over 151 acres of land and is an amazing Dravidian piece of art with 1200 magnificent granite columns and a 55 meter tall gate tower (Gopuram). It is almost 300 years old and is situated to the east of the island.
The best season to visit Rameshwaram is winter, especially between January to march.
