Travelling to Andaman and Nicobar Islands

Since, Andaman and Nicobar is a cluster of islands in Indian Ocean there isn’t a possibility for a tourist to take road or rail to reach there. Therefore, the only options that are available are air and sea.

AIR :

there are regular flights operated from Chennai to Port Blair, which is the only airport to these isles. If you wish to go on any individual island or beach then, you will have to take a mini boat that are available from Port Blair. The flight to Port Blair operates only from Chennai and Calcutta. However these are major cities of India and are internationally connected by air. Chennai and Calcutta are also connected by road and rail internally (within India) to all other major cities of India

SEA :

There are regular ships available from Chennai, Calcutta, and Vishakhapatnam. There is a new star cruise service, which has been just started to Port Blair. It takes about 50 to 60 hours to reach Port Blair from Chennai.

Best time to visit :

The best time to visit Andaman and Nicobar Island is between the month of December and March. During these months there is winter at this island and since India has tropical weather throughout the year it does not snow here, but the weather is pleasant and cool. The temperature is approximately 23 degree C in winter whereas the average temperature varies from 31 degrees in summer to 23 degrees in winter. It rains during monsoon that is from May to mid-September and between Novembers to mid-December.

What clothes to carry ?

As mentioned above the weather of Andaman and Nicobar is tropical and hence a tourist should always carry light cotton clothes. If you plan to visit in monsoon then umbrella or a protector is must. During winter, however it gets colder and so if your tour is scheduled in that season then your bag should carry sweater.
