The bustling beaches of Mumbai
Even as most beaches in India are serene and secluded, the ones in Mumbai are lucky to be different. Most beaches in Mumbai are crowded with people from all walks of life, especially on weekends. Go to any Mumbai beach and you will see a very different sight that you would not get to see in the other beaches of India.
The most popular beach in Mumbai is the Juhu beach, located in the suburbs of Mumbai. People from all walks of life throng this beach to enjoy the sunset. Stalls are located at many places on the beach, and children amuse themselves with different games and rides. The stalls are visited by almost every visitor coming to the beach and they range from the snacks stalls to ice cream and the famous ‘gola’ stalls. Besides, there are also coconut vendors and chat wallas and you can choose your pick from the numerous options available.
The Chowpatty Beach is located at the end of Marine Drive, and is a tranquil beach in the heart of Mumbai. Although the visitors generally don’t go for swimming, this beach is a good place for relaxation and strolls during the evenings. During the Ganesh festival, millions of devotees come to immerse the idol of lord Ganesh, and the sight is worth watching.
Apart from these two beaches, the Versova beach that lies in the suburbs of Andheri is another popular beach .The Versova beach is a small beach village resided by the Koli (fishing) community .This beach is relatively cleaner than the other beaches. During high tides, the entire beach goes inside the water; hence it is closed on those days. This is also the reason why there are no stalls on the shore, although outside the beach there are cafeterias and smaller stalls. Talking about serenity, this is the beach where you’d love to go if that’s what you are looking for.
And now going further up, beyond the suburbs of Malad, lay the beaches Marve, Manori and Aksa. The Marve and the Manori beaches are great beaches to spend your weekend, as the beaches are clean and there are many cottage houses to accommodate you. The Aksa beach is again a secluded beach with a picturesque beauty. Although the beach is a little risky as there have been instances of visitors drowning, the police keep a guard on it and going in the waters is not allowed after eight in the evening.
Words are too less to describe the wonders of the beaches. It can only be felt and experienced. The people of the city that never sleeps find peace and solace here, in these beaches. So if you are also tired of watching the bustling city, do visit these beaches. Although they are crowded with people, they still give you the sense of relaxation that you wish for.
