Looking forward to seeing some enthralling natural scenery around Bangalore? Make sure you visit Shivasamudram falls. The waterfall which is the second biggest in the country is located at a distance of 120 km from Bangalore.
Reaching the spot can be done by a private vehicle or a hired taxi. The journey is pleasant and takes about two to three hours. The journey itself is a pleasure as the road is shrouded by trees on both sides of the road.
The waterfalls are located on a small hillock near the Kaveri Wildlife Sanctuary which makes this place extremely serene. There are two waterfalls on the hill namely- Gaganachukki and Bharachukki.
The Ganganachukki falls is located at the western end near Hydel power plant. The hydro electric generating power plant was the first of its kind in India to provide electricity to Bangalore. The other dam, Bharachukki has a slight curvature giving it a bigger fall edge.
Both of these waterfalls are extremely clean and one can sit and look at them for hours together. The force of the waterfalls is such that one can hear its sound from a significant distance. Though swimming in the waterfall is not allowed due to the high speed of the current, one can sit near the banks and get an occasional spray of water.
The ideal time to visit the falls is between July to November as visiting these falls during the monsoon season can be dangerous. An ideal time to visit the falls is during the early hours of morning as there are a limited number of visitors during this time.
