Gokarna beach

gokarna_halfmoonbeachWith a huge coastline of more than 7000 km, India has a lot to offer when it comes to beaches. Although the beaches in Kerala, Goa and Maharashtra are popular, there are many beautiful and breath taking beaches in the other states also. To the south of India, lies the state of Karnataka. This state is blessed with lush green forests, wildlife, architecture and temples and at the same time is on par with urbanization and technology. This state is also a great destination for all beach lovers.

Since Karnataka has not yet become a tourist hub, the beaches are pristine and less crowded. However, now investors and government see a lot of potential in making the beaches of Karnataka a great beach destination.

The Gokarna is a small village in the north of Karnataka. It lies on the Goa-Karnataka border and is about 450 kilometers from Bangalore. This is also an important centre from the religious point of view and many pilgrims visit Gokarna to worship Lord Shiva.

The Dabolim airport in Goa is the closest airport. You can also take the rail as there is a halt at Gokarna Road station, which is 15 minutes from town. Besides, the town is well connected with Mangalore and other cities via roads.

October to March is the best time to visit Gokarna. The weather is warm and pleasant around that time. The Mahabaleshwar Temple and the Ganpati Temple are the main attractions at Gokarna. The beach is very popular amongst the devotees. There are four pristine beaches here- the Kudle Beach, Om Beach, the Halfmoon Beach, and the Paradise Beach.

The Om Beach is accessible through a car or a rickshaw. You can reach the other beaches through a boat. The Paradise Beach is a hub for hippies.

Although there aren’t many good hotels in Gokarna to stay, the Namaste Café at Om Beach, the Om Beach Resort and SwaSwara are some viable options. These hotels have facilities like an Ayurvedic, yoga and meditation centers wherein tourists can enjoy the relaxation facilities.

Partying on the beaches is a common phenomenon and since the beaches are not yet really explored by the tourists you can enjoy your time away from the crowd. So, if you are looking to break away your monotony and enjoy the serenity amongst spirituality, then Gokarna is the right place for you.
